ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a visual artist, writer, and tattooer mesmerized by macabre ugliness and beauty of the most sparkly, superficial kind. As a multidisciplinary creative, I am inspired across all my practices by the provocative storytelling in Andres Serrano’s photography, the off-key charisma of Katya Zamodlodchikova, and Steve-O’s reckless grit. With them in mind, I’ve internalized the significance of pouring one’s creative identity into their work; I treat every painting, every essay, every tattoo as if it were the last product I put out into the world. My paintings are never landscapes or portraits but collages of pretty trinkets that, to me, are related by fragmented memories and obscure associations. I enjoy making overwhelming paintings that bury their past versions under layers of paint and champion the ornamental details at the surface. My medium of choice is acrylic gouache for its forgiving qualities: missteps can be dissolved into melted sheerness or covered by opaque strokes.
